"Donation for the nomination." Gunjinbeop's arrest crossroads...Silence to questions

Jeon Sung-bae, a Buddhist monk who is accused of receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in exchange for local election nominations, is at a crossroads again.

The Seoul Southern District Court is conducting an interrogation of Jeon's suspect before his arrest from 2 p.m. today (9th).

During his appearance at the court, Jeon was silent when asked by reporters what kind of relationship he had with President Yoon and his wife and whether he acknowledged receiving money and goods.

Jeon is accused of promising to nominate Yeongcheon Mayor of Gyeongsangbuk-do during the 2018 local elections and receiving 150 million won worth of money from a candidate.

The prosecution arrested Jeon urgently last month and applied for an arrest warrant, but requested the warrant again through a reinforcing investigation after the court rejected it, saying it was not clear how to receive illegal political funds.

Jeon is also suspected of intervening in interests by using his close friendship with the Yoon Suk Yeol president and his wife.

In particular, there is a prospect that the investigation could be expanded across the political world as the prosecution secures and analyzes Jeon's cell phone and one tablet PC.
