The bereaved families of two victims of the Jinju National Reporting Federation in South Gyeongsang Province, who lost their lives to the military and police during the Korean War, have received damages from the state.

The Seoul Western District Court today (9th) ruled in favor of some of the plaintiffs in a damages lawsuit filed by the bereaved families of victims Kang Yong-hee and Kim Hyung-gang against the state.

The court ruled that Kang's two children should be paid 18 million won each, 9 million won to their grandchildren, and 160 million won to Kim's children.

The court did not mention the reason why the amount of compensation was calculated.

The case of the Jinju National Reporting Federation in South Gyeongsang Province was mass murder in Jinju and Masan after residents of the region were preliminary arrested by police in July 1950 on the grounds that they were members of the National Reporting Federation.

Earlier, the Truth and Reconciliation Committee for the 2nd Truth and Reconciliation revealed that it is clearly illegal for the military and police to preliminarily arrest unarmed civilians and kill them without legal grounds and procedures.
