A person appointed as a counterterrorism adviser to the second Trump administration has urged the UK to repatriate IS members from their country detained in Syria to the UK.

"Any country that wants to be seen as a true ally and friend of the world's strongest power should act in a serious commitment to that," Sebastian Goka, who has been named deputy national security adviser, told The Times.

He also said that Britain, a special place in Trump's mind, is doubly so, adding that he would like to see such a special relationship fully re-established.

In response, The Times said the second Trump administration would signal a tougher stance on its allies, predicting it would raise concerns for the British government.

He also noted that the current Biden administration has been pressing allies to take their own ISIS members in Syria on moral responsibility, but refusing to repatriate them did not suggest there would be problems with the relationship.

In Syria, the Western-backed Kurdish-affiliated militant group Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has held tens of thousands of captured foreign IS members and their families in camps.

There are reportedly 10 men, 20 women and 40 minors from the UK, which refuses to enter the country.

Goca said the Biden administration has failed to properly respond to the threat of Islamic extremist terrorism and that the second Trump administration will prioritize border security, elimination of domestic terrorism threats, and defeating Islamic jihadist movements abroad.
