The arrest warrant for Justice Jeon Sung-bae, who is suspected of receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in bribes in exchange for local election nomination, has been rejected.

The Seoul Southern District Court rejected the arrest warrant for Jeon today (9th).

Jeon, who appeared at the court for questioning of the suspect before his arrest, was silent when asked by reporters about his relationship with President Yoon and his wife and whether he admitted receiving money and valuables.

Jeon is accused of promising to nominate Yeongcheon Mayor of Gyeongsangbuk-do during the 2018 local elections and receiving 150 million won worth of money from a candidate.

The prosecution arrested Jeon urgently last month and applied for an arrest warrant, but requested the warrant again through a reinforcing investigation after the court rejected it, saying it was not clear how to receive illegal political funds.

Jeon is also suspected of intervening in interests by using his close friendship with the Yoon Suk Yeol president and his wife.

In particular, there is a prospect that the investigation could be expanded across the political world as the prosecution secures and analyzes Jeon's cell phone and one tablet PC.
