"We need to make sure that Ukraine is in an advantageous position when negotiations begin someday," Secretary-General Rutter told reporters ahead of the "UDCG" meeting at the U.S. Air Force Base in Ramstein, Germany, today (9th).
He also stressed that it should not be forgotten that the war in Ukraine is also important in a geopolitical context.
Secretary-General Rutter's first mention of China and emphasis on its geopolitical context is interpreted as being conscious of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, Rutter abruptly canceled his planned visit to the U.S. base in Wiesbaden, Germany, and a news conference scheduled for today, citing changes to his external schedule.
In response, some observers say that Trump may have felt burdened by a situation where sensitive questions could be focused on his remarks on buying Greenland.
