The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said Choi thanked the acting U.N. Secretary-General António Guterresch for consulting with the U.N. over the phone today and expressing his condolences to the bereaved families of the Jeju Air plane crash.
The ministry said that Choi stressed that Korea will contribute to peace and prosperity in the international community through active activities as a member of the UN Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, and the Human Rights Council this year, the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
In response, Guterres said he fully believes in the robustness and resilience of the Korean democratic system and welcomed South Korea's entry into the U.N. as a sign of the international community's trust in South Korea, the ministry said.
