The court said, "We should cancel the decision on the location of the Mapo incinerator"...a resident's first trial.

A court ruled that the Seoul Metropolitan Government should cancel the selection of a new garbage incinerator in Mapo-gu.

The Seoul Administrative Court ruled in favor of the plaintiff in a lawsuit filed by 1,850 Mapo residents against the mayor of Seoul to cancel the decision on the location of the metropolitan resource recovery facility.

In response, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said it will analyze the ruling and submit an appeal early next month, and will prepare additional future measures related to the construction of an incinerator.

Earlier in August 2023, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it would make a final decision on the two parcels next to the site of the Mapo Resource Recovery Facility in Sangam-dong as a new location for domestic waste incinerators, and residents protested and filed a lawsuit asking for the cancellation of the notice.
