EU chief not invited to Trump inauguration... "seeks early contact"

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Union, has no plans to attend U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on the 20th, the EU said.

European Commission chief spokesman Paula Pinho said she would seek an opportunity to contact the new U.S. administration early.

Traditionally, foreign leaders are not invited to the inauguration of the U.S. president, but attention has also been paid to whether other leaders will be invited after reports that Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping this time.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy also said he would like to attend the inauguration if he was invited.
