Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede has repeatedly expressed his intention to refuse to transfer to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, but has said he is willing to expand cooperation, AP reported.

"We don't want to be Danes or Americans, we want to be Greenlanders," Egede said at a joint press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on the 10th local time.

Asked if he had spoken to Trump, Egeden replied: "I haven't, but we're ready to talk."

"Cooperation means working towards a solution," he added.

Egede also reaffirmed his desire for independence ahead of Frederiksen.

"Anyone in the world will understand the desire to be the owner of their home," Egeden said when asked about Denmark's future relationship with Greenland, the autonomous province.

"When I have to talk to the leaders of other countries, I have to be with the Danish ambassador," he said. "We want to speak out on our own and I think this is justified."
