Trump, convicted, sworn in as U.S. president with disgrace

A U.S. court has sentenced Trump to "unconditional release" in which he is convicted in connection with the sex scandal gag money case but does not actually punish him.

As a result, Trump will be disgraced as the first U.S. president to be convicted of a felony crime in U.S. history on the 20th.

Trump was found guilty of handing over money to a former adult film actor and manipulating accounting records to prevent revelations of alleged sexual intercourse.

The Manhattan Criminal Court, a first trial court in New York State, sentenced Trump to "unconditional release," a conviction but not punishment.

Judge Juan Merchant formalizes the jury's "guilty verdict" as a "guilty verdict," but says it has considered legal protections for the president.

The suspension of prison sentences as well as fines are interpreted as a political consideration not to make the U.S. president a punished "convict."

The prosecution also agreed with the court's explanation that it is to implement judicial justice but not to interfere with the performance of his duties as president-elect.

Trump has called the trial a "political witch hunt" and has pleaded not guilty, and has refused to admit allegations that he had sex with a former adult movie star.

Trump's side has continued various court battles to prevent the first trial from being sentenced before the president's inauguration.

With the ruling, Trump will begin his term in office on the 20th with a scarlet letter saying he is the first president in U.S. history to be convicted of a felony.
