South Korea and the U.S. stressed that the Korea-U.S. Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG) meeting will continue to function as a foundation for strengthening all-in-one extended deterrence ahead of the launch of the second Trump administration.

South Korea and the U.S. issued a joint press statement on the 10th local time after holding the 4th Nuclear Consultation Group meeting jointly organized by Cho Chang-rae, head of the Defense Policy Office at the U.S. Department of Defense, and Kara Abercrombie, acting Deputy Secretary of Defense at the U.S. Department of Defense.

The two countries said in a statement that any North Korean nuclear strike against the United States or its allies was unacceptable and would result in an end to the regime.

At the meeting, South Korea and the U.S. evaluated that over the past year, the alliance has strengthened its nuclear deterrence and response capabilities by discussing extended deterrence areas such as information sharing, consultation system, joint planning, and joint implementation.

In addition, the U.S. reaffirmed its commitment to frequently deploy strategic assets on the Korean Peninsula and actively disclose them, and decided to continue to advance nuclear and conventional integration (CNI) exercises and exercises.

The Nuclear Consultative Group is a bilateral consultative body that South Korea can express its opinion on U.S. nuclear operations to strengthen extended deterrence against North Korea's nuclear weapons program, and was launched in the wake of the 2023 Washington Declaration by the leaders of South Korea and the U.S.
