Prices have been fluctuating since the beginning of the year as production of cabbage and radish has decreased due to the heat and frequent rain.

The economic wrinkles of the common people are not being cleared.

I'm reporter Kim Jiwoo of KCTV Jeju Broadcasting.

It is a market alley with vegetable stores.

Winter cabbages and radishes in season are on display, but there are only a few customers.

The price of a cabbage sold here is 8,000 won.

It is time for prices to fall after the kimchi-making season, but rather, the price has soared, and the number of customers visiting has decreased significantly.

[Cabbage shop vendor: The price of cabbages has to go down after making kimchi, but this year, it's expensive, so people don't buy it, people who can't, people who can't make kimchi buy it one by one]

As of the 7th, the average retail price of cabbage in the province is 5,435 won per head.

It jumped 45% from the average year and 72% from last year. The price of

radishes has also increased.

The average non-retail price was 2,330 won per piece, up 11% from the previous year and up 29% from last year.

Last year's summer heat wave led to a late heat wave until after Chuseok, leading to a sluggish growth of agricultural products.

In addition, frequent rains in Jeju, a winter rain-free production area, also affected the decrease in production.

Since the beginning of the year, vegetable prices have skyrocketed, raising concerns about table prices this year following last year.

Consumer price growth in the province was relatively stable at around 1% last year, but agricultural products soared 10.4% in the aftermath of abnormal climate and other factors.

The fresh food index, which consists of items that fluctuate in price depending on weather or season, such as vegetables and fruits, also rose 9.5%, increasing the burden of table prices.

[Kim Ji-beom, head of the economic research team at the Jeju office of Statistics Korea: Long-term heat waves and heavy rains led to a drop in shipments of pests, heat and damage, with 18.3% increase in fruits, 7.6% increase in vegetables, and 2.8% increase in other agricultural products, respectively, the overall fresh food index rose.]

As prices of cabbage and radish, which are high-quality products, rise ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, the government will expand supply and push for up to 40% discounts in marts and traditional markets by the 29th.

However, as food prices continue to rise due to frequent abnormal climates, the concerns of the low-income economy, which is struggling with an economic downturn, are deepening.
