Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to send Director David Vanaea Mossad to Qatar to attend ceasefire talks in Gaza, the prime minister's office said.

Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas are underway in Doha, Qatar, with the mediation of the United States, Egypt and Qatar.

The prime minister's office did not say when Vanaea would head to Doha, but the decision could be seen as a sign of progress in ceasefire negotiations, the Associated Press reported.

Earlier in the day, Netanyahu met with Steve Witkov, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's special envoy to the Middle East, on the 11th local time.

Trump has been pressing Hamas to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza until the 20th, when he will be sworn in as president.
