L.A. Wildfire Spreads Downtown for 5th Day...an escalation of tension

As simultaneous wildfires continue to spread for a fifth day in Los Angeles (LA), the largest city in the western United States, winds that have subsided are gaining momentum again, making it more difficult to put out.

Authorities in California and LA counties said four wildfires were underway in LA County as of 10 a.m. local time on the 11th, and the area of damage increased to 156.3 square kilometers.

In particular, as the fires on the western beaches veered and spread further inland, evacuations were also ordered for some residents of the Getty Museum, a landmark in L.A., and nearby Buchon Bel Air.

Residents of prestigious public universities UCLA and the famous rich town of Beverly Hills are also in a situation where they cannot be relieved.

Authorities are focusing their efforts on extinguishing the fires with support from the federal government and others, but the rate of extinguishing large fires such as the Feliz and Eaton wildfires is still around 10%.

Meanwhile, the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) is raising tensions by warning that winds will strengthen again in the L.A. area from 9 a.m. on the 11th to 2 p.m. on the 12th, with maximum wind speeds reaching 75-89 kilometers per hour.

At least 11 people have been killed, 13 are believed to be missing, and more than 12,300 buildings have been destroyed in the wildfires so far.

Currently, 153,000 residents in L.A. County have been ordered to evacuate, and 166,000 have been issued an "evacuation warning" to be ready to evacuate at any time.
