The KOSPI opened 0.3% lower at 2,508.15 as U.S. employment data came in higher than expected and expectations for a U.S. rate cut retreated.
The KOSDAQ opened 0.54 percent lower at 713.98 amid institutional net selling.
On the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate started at 1,473.2 won and was trading in the early 1,470 won range, up 8.2 won on rising U.S. Treasury yields.
