Gyeonggi Province said it will implement climate insurance for the first time in the country from March to minimize health damage caused by climate such as heat waves and cold waves.

All provincial residents will be automatically insured without a separate registration process, and will be guaranteed 100,000 won for diagnosis of heat and cold diseases once a year and 100,000 won for diagnosis of infectious diseases.

More than 160,000 climate-vulnerable people who are eligible for visiting health care projects at city and county health centers can receive additional support for hospitalization, transportation, and transportation costs.

will invest 3.4 billion won in its own budget to select insurers through open bidding this month.

In particular, climate-vulnerable groups will receive 100,000 won per day (up to 5 days) for hospitalization due to heat and cold diseases, and 20,000 won for visiting medical institutions and transporting ambulances (up to 500,000 won) will be guaranteed during the weather report.

Cha Sung-soo, director of the Gyeonggi-do Climate, Environment and Energy Bureau, said, "It will be a new model for responding to the climate crisis, including supporting the vulnerable."
