The National Intelligence Service said that among the North Korean troops dispatched to Russia, 300 were killed and 2,700 were injured, with the number of casualties estimated to have exceeded 3,000.

Rep. Lee Sung-kwon of the People's Power, the ruling party secretary of the National Assembly's Intelligence Committee, made the remarks after receiving a report on pending NIS issues at a plenary session of the Intelligence Committee.

According to the NIS' analysis of the North Korean military's combat video, North Korea's lack of understanding of modern warfare, such as meaningless drone long-range aiming and shooting, and Russia's poor use of the North Korean military seem to be the main reasons for the massive casualties.

It also reported that the North Korean authorities emphasized self-destruction or self-determination to the North Korean military before the capture, and that one North Korean soldier was killed while shouting for General Kim Jong-un.

The NIS added that the dispatched soldiers were found vaguely expecting to join the Labor Party, and that the North Korean authorities provided material compensation such as food and daily necessities for their families after the dispatch.

In addition, North Korean State Councilor Kim Jong-un added that the NIS understands that he will weigh the schedule for his visit to Russia within the first half of this year.
