While two North Korean soldiers sent to Russia were captured alive in Ukraine and their faces and developments were disclosed, the National Intelligence Service conducted a closed-door report at the National Assembly Intelligence Committee today.
The NIS first said that the number of North Korean troops killed on the battlefield in Ukraine reached 300, the number of injured was 2,700, and the total number of casualties reached 3,000.
The main reasons for the great damage to the North Korean military were the lack of understanding of the modern war and the poor use of the Russian side.
There have also been reports that North Korean authorities have forced them to commit suicide or suicide in advance if captured on the battlefield.
The NIS introduced that one North Korean soldier was killed while shouting Kim Jong-un and attempting to detonate himself when he was on the verge of capture.
Earlier, one of the two North Korean soldiers captured in Ukraine was revealed to have expressed his intention not to return to North Korea.
In this regard, the National Intelligence Service said it has not yet demanded defection to South Korea and said it would consult with Ukraine if requested.
The National Intelligence Service predicted that North Korea will consider whether to push for a visit in the first half of this year, as to the possibility of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's visit to Russia, which has been constantly discussed.
Regarding the launch of the second Trump administration in the U.S., the National Intelligence Service predicted that Trump himself recognized the past U.S.-North Korea summit as a representative achievement, and that he may pursue dialogue with Kim Jong-un again.
If North Korea finds it difficult to completely denuclearize in a short period of time, it is predicted that there will be a possibility of so-called "small deal" negotiations, in which nuclear disarmament and others will rise to the agenda.
