If the National Intelligence Service determines that complete denuclearization of North Korea is difficult to achieve within a short period of time, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un could start negotiations on a "small deal" such as nuclear freezing and disarmament.

Rep. Lee Sung-kwon of the People's Power and Park Sun-won of the Democratic Party, who are secretaries of the ruling and opposition parties of the National Assembly's Intelligence Committee, told reporters after receiving a report on the pending issue from the National Intelligence Service.

The National Intelligence Service based the fact that Trump considers dialogue between North Korea and the U.S. as a representative achievement of his first term in office, and that he is appointing people related to North Korea to the second administration.

The National Intelligence Service reported that the U.S. needs to exclude the South Korean government and block the possibility of engaging in a unilateral North Korean nuclear deal, the two lawmakers said.
