In a major report in 2025, the Personal Information Protection Committee said it will revise the Personal Information Protection Act this year to provide legal rights for data subjects to request the deletion of synthetic content that abuses deepfake technology, and to ban and punish personal information synthesis that undermines personal value.
It also said it will make it mandatory to designate a domestic corporation as a domestic agent to prevent "tricks" by foreign companies that do not submit sales to avoid imposing fines even after leaking personal information of domestic customers, and launch a litigation team.
In addition, it announced that it will lay the foundation for innovation in new industries, including generative artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT, and enact laws to safely utilize personal image information and revitalize related industries.
In the case of the MyData system, which is set to be implemented in earnest this year, five leading services will be released in stages in the medical, communication, and energy fields.
