After the Muan Jeju Air plane disaster, the government conducted a full investigation into the risks of collisions on navigation safety facilities near domestic airport runways and found that nine facilities at seven airports needed improvement measures.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport made the announcement as a result of focusing on the installation location of four types of navigation safety facilities near the runway, including azimuth facilities at 13 airports nationwide, until the 8th.

Specifically, azimuth facilities were found at seven airports, including Muan Airport, and in addition to Muan Airport, Gwangju, Yeosu, and Pohang Gyeongju Airport, there were one localizer structure in the form of a concrete hill.

In addition, two concrete foundations were found at Gimhae Airport and Sacheon Airport, respectively, and a hard H-shaped steel structure was found at Jeju Airport.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also explained that the performance of navigation safety facilities was well maintained as a result of special inspections and that sufficient safety was secured, mostly using fragile materials.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has decided to conduct special safety inspections on major airport facilities nationwide from today (13th) to 21st, and to come up with improvement measures for defense facilities this month.
