A U.S. federal court has decided that President-elect Donald Trump could release an independent counsel's investigation report into allegations of overturning the 2020 presidential election results.

Judge Aileen Cannon of Florida's southern federal court rejected Trump's request to keep the entire special counsel's report on the leak of confidential documents and the overturning of the presidential election results private.

U.S. media, however, predicted that the court's decision is unlikely to be the final decision as the defendants can appeal the decision.

The special prosecutor, who previously indicted Trump on charges of overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election and leaking confidential documents, gave up his indictment after the presidential election in November last year, citing the policy of not prosecuting the incumbent president.

Despite the abandonment of the prosecution, Special Counsel Smith wrote a report containing the investigation into Trump in accordance with the Justice Department's policy, and Trump has protested that the release of the report has no legal basis.
