Acting President Choi Sang-mok exercised his right to reconsider at a Cabinet meeting held at the Seoul Government Complex today, saying that it is desirable for the National Assembly to come up with socially acceptable alternatives through sufficient political and policy consultations rather than legislatively forcing state funding.
Acting President Choi Sang-mok explained the purpose of asking the National Assembly to discuss it again, saying that the local government has enough room to pay for free high school education and that the government should focus its finances on recovering the people's livelihood. The amendment to the Local Education Finance Grant Act
contains a special provision that extends the state's temporary support of 47.5% of the cost for five years, starting free high school education in 2019, for another three years.
