The Peruvian president, who is suspected of abandoning his duties after undergoing nose plastic surgery, has appeared before prosecutors in person for questioning.

Chaos continues in Peruvian politics, with the previous president declaring the dissolution of parliament and being impeached and arrested by police that day.

With a security vehicle escorting the front and back, Peru's president's car enters the prosecutor's office.

President Dina Boluarte, who is being investigated for dereliction of duty, appears before the prosecution.

President Boluarte is accused of abandoning his duties for 11 days as he underwent a nose job in the summer of 2023.

[Juan Antonio Crews / Peruvian citizen] You gave up the government, you gave up the Peruvian people for surgery. The prosecution should make a final decision on the president.]

President Boluarte, who remained silent for months over the allegations, finally acknowledged the operation last month.

[Dina Boluarte / President of Peru (December last year): It was necessary and inevitable for my health. It was a necessary surgery for my breathing function.]

The president said that there was no dereliction of duty by performing work remotely from the hospital room at the time, but that he responded to the investigation with respect to state agencies.

Peruvian prosecutors raided the presidential residence last year on charges of receiving expensive bribes such as Rolex watches.

Castillo, who had previously worked with Boluarte as vice president, was arrested for rebellion after declaring emergency measures when Congress was expected to impeach him.

[Pedro Castillo / Then Peruvian President (December 2022) : Declares to dissolve Parliament and establish a special emergency government.]

The president was arrested after impeachment that day because the head of the Constitutional Court ruled emergency measures unconstitutional, ministers resigned en masse, and the military and police refused to order to protect the constitution.

But Peru's political divisions are not easily healing, with anti-government protests still continuing on the streets.
