'Guacheon Soundproof Tunnel Fire' Director 2nd Trial 'Keeping the original mind'

Workers in the control room of the Gwacheon Soundproof Tunnel fire accident, where five people died, were also convicted at the appeal trial.

The Suwon District Court dismissed all appeals against five people, including A, the head of the control room charged with professional negligence and maintained the original ruling.

In the first trial, A was sentenced to two years in prison, two other workers were sentenced to one and a half years in prison, and three years of probation.

The court said that A and others neglected their duty of care and caused an irreversible disaster, and considering this, the first trial sentence was not unfair and the reason for dismissing the appeal was revealed.

They were put on trial in December 2022 on charges of 55 casualties due to the spread of the fire while not watching CCTV during the fire in the highway soundproof tunnel in Gwacheon City, Gyeonggi Province.
