The government has finally decided that the ambassador to the United States will attend Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony in Washington, DC, on the 20th local time.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today that Ambassador Cho Hyun-dong to the U.S. plans to attend Trump's inauguration ceremony as a representative of the government.

The U.S. traditionally sends invitations to the presidential inauguration to ambassador couples in Washington, D.C., and the government has been represented by ambassadors to the U.S.

Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol is said to have not been invited separately.

However, the government is planning an early visit to the U.S. in conjunction with the launch of the second Trump administration and is reportedly continuing contact with Trump for high-level communication such as the Korea-U.S. foreign ministers' meeting.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced this year's major initiatives at the 2025 meeting on major pending issues in the diplomatic and security sectors.
