Gaza's Civil Defence said several places in Gaza had been bombed, with 20 of the 73 people killed being children and 25 women.
He also explained that 230 people were injured and that the bombing was continuing.
Earlier, Reuters reported that airstrikes continued in Gaza City in northern Gaza, Rafa in southern Gaza and Nusairat in central Gaza, destroying several homes.
The Israeli military said Gaza militants fired rockets at the country on the 16th local time, and there were no casualties.
The cease-fire was scheduled to take effect on the 19th (Sunday) if approved by the Israeli cabinet, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was postponing the cabinet meeting, arguing that Hamas violated the agreement.
