The People's Power has decided to adopt and propose its own independent counsel law, which will independently investigate the emergency martial law situation.
The Democratic Party of Korea plans to pass the "final negotiation" today (17th), but attention is being paid to whether it will be able to reach an agreement.

With the signature of all 108 lawmakers, the People's Power has decided to propose the "Extraordinary Special Prosecutor Act" to investigate the president of Yoon Suk Yeol.
At the general meeting of lawmakers, some argued that it was right for the ruling party to issue a special prosecution law targeting the president on its own, but in the end, it decided to follow the leadership's will.
Floor leader Kwon Sung-dong said, "It is disastrous, but it is a desperate measure to prevent the special prosecution law made by the Democratic Party."
[Kwon Seong-dong / People's Power Floor Leader: It's something that we shouldn't do with a single person before politics.... I'm well aware of that.]
The People's Power decided to accept the opposition's argument to unify the independent counsel candidate's recommendation as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
However, the scope and duration of the investigation, including the charge of propaganda and instigation of foreign exchange and civil war, and the size of the special prosecution team should be reduced.
National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik, who met with the floor leaders of the ruling and opposition parties one after another, decided to mediate the final negotiations before the plenary session is held this afternoon (17th).
The Democratic Party of Korea said it will find an agreement as much as possible by midnight if the ruling party shows its will.
[Park Chan-dae / Minjoo Party floor leader: We will try to reach a conclusion on the independent counsel law by consulting each other as much as possible. The key point is if there's anything we can agree on while keeping it....]
In order to launch a special prosecutor, the government's demand for reconsideration and the ruling and opposition parties' agreement, which does not require a re-vote at the National Assembly, are considered the fastest way.
However, the deadline for negotiations cannot exceed midnight.
If the agreement with the ruling party fails, the Democratic Party plans to deal with the "Special Prosecutor Act on the Insurrection of the Opposition Vote", which has already been submitted to the plenary session.
Attention is focusing on how the ruling party, which brought up its own independent counsel law after agonizing over the departure vote, will engage in negotiations.
