"It was difficult to even attempt suicide because he was in custody." He also recalled that he hoped that the death sentence would be rather sentenced to death by shame and pain.

Suspicions of the prosecution's investigation team's coercive investigation into former professor Shin were also a problem at President Yoon's confirmation hearing for the prosecutor general in 2019.

In response, President Yoon dismissed the allegations, saying, "There was no coercive investigation during Shin Jeong-ah's investigation," adding, "Like other investigations, we followed due process according to laws and principles."
