The court's judgment that the Korean government should compensate Vietnamese affected by the Korean military's massacre of civilians during the Vietnam War was maintained in the appeal trial.

The Seoul Central District Court ruled today (17th) that the government should pay Nguyen 30 million won and delayed damages in an appeal case filed by Nguyen Thitan against the government.

The court judged that the government was responsible for compensation under the National Compensation Act, saying it could recognize the intention, negligence or illegality of the troops involved in the killing.

Nguyen filed a compensation suit in April 2020, claiming that he was also shot after losing his family members in February 1968 when South Korean troops slaughtered more than 70 civilians in a Vietnamese village in Quang Nam.
