The leaders of the ruling and opposition parties attended a joint memorial ceremony for the victims of the Jeju Air plane disaster, which was strictly observed at Muan Airport in Jeollanam-do, comforting the bereaved families and promising to find out the truth of the disaster and prevent its recurrence.

Kwon Young-se, the emergency committee chairman of the People's Power, said in a memorial speech, "I am heartbroken at the thought of failing to protect the lives of the people who are precious to me as a politician," adding, "We will thoroughly investigate the cause of the disaster and come up with countermeasures."

Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, also vowed to overhaul the system and policies to prevent such tragedies from repeating, saying, "We will create a country that puts the lives and safety of the people first and a society that puts life above money."
