Prime Minister Ishiba said on NHK's morning broadcast that details of the U.S.-Japan summit have yet to be determined.
He also expressed his mindset to engage in his first summit with Trump, saying that Japan should realize and speak independently about its role in security, economy and foreign policy.
Local media, including the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, recently reported that Prime Minister Ishiba and Trump are coordinating a plan to hold a summit in the first half of February.
