In our view, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which was scheduled to enter at 3:30 p.m. today, took effect about three hours late.

At one point, there was a sense of crisis that the ceasefire might be canceled, such as Israel resuming airstrikes after Hamas failed to hand over the "release hostage list" promised on time.

Black smoke rises again in Gaza, which should be tranquil due to the ceasefire.

At least eight people have been killed and dozens injured in Israeli airstrikes.

The Israeli military said a ceasefire had not taken effect because Hamas did not send a list of three hostages to be released on the first day.

[Daniel Hagari / Israeli military spokesman: Until this morning, the deadline, Hamas has not fulfilled its promise. So far, the list of released hostages has not been delivered to Israel.]

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned in a statement an hour before the cease-fire came into force that there would be no cease-fire until he received a list of hostages to be released.

As a result, there were once concerns that the hard-won ceasefire would go up in smoke.

Hamas said it was due to "technical problems in the field" and named three women: 24-year-old Romi Gonen, 28-year-old Emily Damari and 31-year-old Doron Steinbresche.

With the late submission of the list, the ceasefire came into force at 11:15 a.m. local time, two hours and 45 minutes later than planned.

Hamas will release 33 hostages for 42 days and Israel will release 737 Palestinian prisoners.

This creaking from the start signaled that things could go wrong at any time in the process of further release, and an uneasy truce began.
