In the first trial of those responsible for the collapse of Hwajeong I-Park in Gwangju, where six people died three years ago, 11 people were sentenced to prison and management was acquitted.

The Gwangju District Court sentenced two on-site directors to four years in prison today (20th) in a trial against three corporations, including HDC Hyundai Development Co., subcontractors, and supervisors, and 17 defendants.

Eleven people were sentenced to prison, including two Hyundai Industrial Development employees and one subcontractor who were involved in the temporary removal of the support, and three corporations were fined from 100 million won to 500 million won, respectively.

However, six people, including the original contractor and three subcontracted executives, were acquitted.

"Severe damage has occurred and has also caused damage to prospective residents and shopping mall residents," the court said. "However, the non-application for punishment was submitted in agreement with the victim, and the management cannot be held accountable for the case before the serious accident punishment law is enforced."
