Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Maoning told a regular briefing that if it involves Chinese companies, it should be in line with China's laws and regulations.
He added that the operation and acquisition of a company should be in accordance with market principles and the company's independent decisions.
"TikTok has been operating in the U.S. for many years, complying with U.S. laws and never hurting U.S. national security," Mao said. "We hope the U.S. will listen seriously to rational voices to provide an open, equitable and non-discriminatory business environment for market players in each country."
In response to Musk's comment that the U.S. allows TikTok to operate, but it is unreasonable for China to prevent X from operating, he reiterated his stance, saying, "We welcome Internet companies from each country to develop in China if they comply with Chinese laws and provide safe and reliable products and services."
Earlier, Trump said he was considering an executive order to suspend the TikTok ban and proposed a plan to create a joint venture involving Chinese and U.S. companies to take a half stake.
