The National Election Commission has filed a complaint with police against a media company and a reporter who reported that 99 Chinese spies were arrested at the Election Training Institute on the day of the emergency martial law, on charges of defamation and obstruction of business.

The NEC issued a press release and said that the defendant reported and distributed false facts by citing "American sources" without a process to verify the facts.

He then pointed out that enormous time and manpower were put into explaining such false reports, which hindered the original work of the NEC, and amplified suspicions of fraudulent elections, fueling social division.

The election watchdog explained that 96 people, including outside instructors, were staying at the Election Training Institute on the day of the emergency martial law mentioned in the report.

Earlier, an Internet media reported on the 16th that on the day of the emergency martial law, martial law forces and the U.S. military raided the Election Training Institute, arrested 99 Chinese nationals and transferred them to a U.S. military base in Okinawa, Japan, where they confessed to election interference.
