With the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in effect, up to 1.9 million refugees are returning home for the first time in a long time.

Although full-fledged relief efforts have begun, it is difficult to estimate how long it will take for Gaza, which has been devastated, to regain its normalcy.

Reporter Shin Woong-jin's report.

When I heard the news of the ceasefire, I hurriedly packed my bags and returned to my hometown, but my house turned into ruins.

I try to clean it up with my bare hands as soon as possible, but I can't handle it at all.

90% of Gaza's population, the reality of the 1.9 million refugees.

[Amal Abu Eita / Piranmin: I was able to check the situation the moment I returned to Jabalia. At the entrance to Jabalia, I found that tragedy affected everyone. I didn't even think I'd get my house back.]

However, as air strikes were stopped and border passages opened, support from neighboring countries and international organizations became possible, which opened up breathing room.

UNICEF vehicles full of water and sanitation products have been introduced, and the World Food Program plans to supply 150 trucks of food every day.

[Antoine Renard / Palestinian Director: We can ensure that 1.1 million people currently in the food crisis receive adequate support. There was no looting when we crossed the border this time.

The war is not completely over, but the restoration work has also taken place since the first day of the ceasefire.

[Gloria Rajic / United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs] We have a big challenge ahead of us. Roads need to be repaired, shelters installed, and supplies.]

With nearly 47,000 people killed and more than 110,000 injured in the 15-month war, Gaza residents' struggle to restore their old lives has begun.
