According to the New York Times (NYT), interviews with local real estate agents showed that "the surge in demand following Trump's second term has led to a shortage of luxury homes in Washington."
Some of the rich people looking for luxury housing in Washington have held high-ranking positions in the second Trump administration, and others are said to be moving to increase their chances of contact with government officials, although they did not hold public office.
Jim Bell, vice president of real estate firm TTR Sotheby's International Realty, said, "It's really hard to respond to the huge influx of rich people in Washington," explaining the huge shortage of supply compared to demand.
It added that due to the lack of voluntary sales, real estate agents are calling existing customers who own luxury homes in the area to ask if they are willing to sell their homes to new arrivals.
Some of Trump's second-term dignitaries are lucky enough to find a house, and others are looking for one that they like, but some are only known to have been sold and not disclosed who the new owner is.
There was an offer to sell it because I would double the house price, but some landlords refused.
Washington Post columnist Sally Quinn told the New York Times that she had been offered an 18-room mansion where she has lived for more than 40 years, saying she would "never" sell it. This is my home."
It's not clear where Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has the most money in the world, will be in Washington, as well as senior Trump administration officials with $429 billion (622 trillion won).
According to local media reports, Musk is also trying to buy the entire "Line Hotel" and turn it into a private club, the NYT said.
Some point out that luxury houses in Washington, D.C., seem extremely expensive to the general public, but they are not a big deal for the rich looking for these houses.
Thirteen of Trump's second-term administration nominees were found to have more than $1 billion (1.45 trillion won) in wealth.
Trump himself is known to have $6.8 billion (9.9 trillion won).
