According to Fox News and the Mexican daily Eluniversal, Trump will issue about 10 executive orders to drastically overhaul immigration policies, including placing U.S. troops on the southern border, abolishing entry policies for people from certain South American countries, and designating international cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
Fox News confirmed three of these details, and reported that one of them is to end the way to apply for entry through an application ("CBP One") designed by the Joe Biden administration to handle asylum claims in an orderly manner.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has asked immigrants to apply for entry through the app in advance to clearly understand the demand for immigration to the U.S. by some countries suffering from political and social unrest, including Venezuela, Cuba, and Haiti.
The app is usually active in the U.S. border Mexico's northern border city or Mexico City.
Fox News said about 30,000 people entered the U.S. every month in that way, but the second Trump administration will restore the Immigrant Protection Protocol (MPP), which requires immigration and asylum seekers to stay in Mexico before the court decides.
President-elect Trump also said he plans to instruct the military to "prioritize border and territorial integrity when planning strategic plans for military operations" for border security. The plan is to reallocate
troops to strengthen border surveillance, which is in line with President-elect Trump's comments that "we are willing to exercise our sovereignty over the border and we will send a clear message that we can protect the border through the military."
In addition, the second Trump administration plans to put international drug cartel organizations, including "MS-13" (Mara Salvatrucha), on the list of "Overseas Terrorist Organizations" (FTOs) and "Special Designated International Terrorists" (SDGT).
On the change in U.S. border policy, Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum, the most direct interested party, said at a regular press conference on the same day, "We have to hear President-elect Trump's inauguration speech, but we are ready," adding, "As I have always said, the Mexican government is confident that it will discuss with the new U.S. government and reach an agreement."
