A North Korean prisoner captured by Ukrainian forces said he came to Russia without knowing who he was fighting.

The soldier, who identified himself as "Second Battalion 1st Company of the Reconnaissance Bureau" in a North Korean POW newspaper video further released by Ukrainian President Zelensky on social media, explained that he arrived in Russia by ship from North Korea and then boarded a train and moved by land.

"Even after coming out here, we didn't know that we were going to Russia or that our enemy was Ukrainian," he said.

Asked if he knew anything about the North Korean military's loss of troops, he answered, "There were many of my colleagues who came with me, but I don't know how much overall."

When asked if he had been trained on how to use Russian-made weapons and military equipment, he replied, "I will pick several people and teach them how to use Russian weapons and equipment," but he said he had never been educated.

The soldier in the video is one of the two North Korean soldiers that President Zelensky disclosed on the 12th, saying that Ukrainian troops captured him alive in Kursk, western Russia.

Along with the video, President Zelensky also posted a Korean post that read, "The captured North Korean military and Ukrainian security service investigators continue to communicate."

"The fact that North Korean troops are moved to Russian territory to train and completely cut off such information has been confirmed through the words of the prisoners," President Zelensky said. "All the facts about North Korea's participation in the war will be confirmed."
