A man in his 40s who smuggled drugs into the country from Thailand by hiding them in the soles of his accomplice's sneakers was sentenced to heavy punishment.

The Incheon District Court sentenced A, a man in his 40s, to eight years in prison on charges of entertainment under the Act on the Aggravation of Specific Crimes.

The court revealed the reason for the sentencing, saying that the amount of drugs A smuggled in was considerable and that he committed the same crime again, but that he was reflecting on himself.

Mr. A was put on trial on July 6 last year on charges of smuggling 249 grams of ketamine worth 16 million won from Thailand into the country.

It was investigated that A and his accomplice B went to Bangkok, Thailand, and got ketamine from a local supplier, hid it in B's sneaker soles, and got on a plane together.

In 2022, A was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for entertainment under the Narcotics Control Act, and was found to have committed another crime five months after he was released from prison in February last year.
