The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, which marks its fourth year of production theater declaration, has announced that it will develop its self-help production capabilities this year, focusing on art groups affiliated with the Seoul Metropolitan Ballet.

The Sejong Center for the Performing Arts held a press conference this morning in the practice room of the Seoul Ballet Company on Nordle Island, Seoul, and introduced its vision of a "production theater leading new art" and last year's achievements.

At the meeting, Ahn Ho-sang, president of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, explained the achievements of the Seoul Dance Company's "Ilmu" and the Seoul Theater Company's "Tungso Sori," which were sold out last year, and emphasized that he would compete with convincing works this year as well.

Of the 29 performances on stage this year, 86 percent will be performances by their own art groups, the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts added.

In particular, the Seoul Metropolitan Ballet, Korea's first contemporary public ballet company, is developing new works with world-class choreographers such as "Ohad Naharin" in its second year.

Regarding the criticism that it is focusing only on popularization as a public theater, the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts explained that it is a process to provide familiar access to art performances with high thresholds.

At today's press conference, President Ahn Ho-sang, Ko Sun-woong, head of the Seoul Theater, Park Hye-jin, head of the Seoul Opera, and Yoon Hye-jeong, head of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, attended and announced new works this year.
