Acting President Choi Sang-mok has indicated that he can start discussing the creation of an additional budget on the premise of the operation of a national council between the National Assembly and the government.

Acting President Choi said at the Cabinet meeting that if the "National Assembly and Government Council" is operated as soon as possible, the National Assembly and the government will be able to discuss it together under the basic principles of finance that require the most effective use of precious taxes from the people.

Acting President Choi said that the opinion that additional fiscal investment is needed to support difficult people's livelihoods and strengthen industrial competitiveness is being raised not only in politics but also in local governments and business circles.

It is believed that the possibility of creating an extra budget this year has been left open on the premise of discussions between the National Assembly and the government.

"The National Assembly and the government should operate the National Assembly and the government's parliamentary council as soon as possible to expedite key bills on people's livelihoods and the economy," Choi said, calling for legislation such as the revision of the Special Taxation Act to ease the burden on small business owners, the Special Act on the Semiconductor Industry, the Special Act on the Power Grid, and the Special Act on Maritime Wind Power.

Regarding the launch of the second Trump administration, he said, "There are concerns that the new U.S. government's trade policy and other changes will have a significant impact on our economy and industry, which are highly dependent on foreign countries."

"In particular, many are worried that the addition of external shocks to the domestic economy, such as domestic demand and employment, will further increase the difficulties of vulnerable groups such as small business owners," acting Choi said. "The government will make all-out efforts to respond to changes in the trade environment and recover people's livelihoods by mobilizing all available resources."
