Japanese government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi said he congratulated President Trump on his inauguration.
Hayashi stressed at the U.S.-Japan summit that he is trying to elevate the U.S.-Japan alliance even higher while building a solid relationship of trust.
He added that the two countries want to share the recognition that working together to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific greatly contributes to world peace and stability.
President Trump said in his inaugural address that he would respond appropriately to the new tariff policy after investigating the details of the future and the impact on Japan.
