The Overseas Koreans' Office selects 12 local governments to support stable settlement of Koreans residing in Korea and promotes customized settlement support projects.

This year, 13 metropolitan and basic organizations applied for 16 projects for the local government subsidy project, and 13 projects from 12 local governments, including Gwangju Metropolitan City and Ansan City, which are densely populated with compatriots, were finally selected.

With more than 860,000 Koreans residing in Korea recently, this is the first time since the launch of the Korean Residents' Office that the Overseas Koreans' Office supports Koreans residing in Korea through local governments.

The Korean Community Service said it has launched the project to strengthen its capacity to help compatriots staying in Korea settle down stably and contribute to the development of the country in the face of low birth rates and local extinction crisis.

In addition, it is expected that social interest in compatriots will increase and awareness of them will improve along with the creation of an environment in which compatriots returning to Korea can settle stably.
