The U.S. State Department has established a separate section for gender on websites that provide passport-related services, allowing them to choose "X," which means "male" and "female" or other identities, but removed it yesterday local time.
Searching for that section on the Internet will lead you to the General Passport Information page.
The State Department's action comes after President Trump issued an executive order officially recognizing only men and women.
The executive order instructed the secretary of state and the secretary of homeland security to "change the identification documents issued by the government, including passports, visas and entry cards, to accurately reflect the gender of ID holders."
The U.S. media pointed out that the executive order could have a significant impact on transgender people who have changed their biological gender or those preparing for gender transition.
