Prohibited biocidal substances have been detected in some non-genuine compatible air purifier filters, and recovery orders have been issued.

The Ministry of Environment said that after investigating the stability of 42 air purifier filters in circulation with the Korea Consumer Agency, methyl isothiazolinone (MIT), which can irritate the respiratory system and skin, was detected in eight compatible products.

The eight products not only violated safety standards, but also did not report them without receiving confirmation of compliance with safety standards for "filter-type preservation treatment products" even though they used substances for antibacterial and preservation purposes.

The Ministry of Environment said it has notified violators of the ban on manufacturing, importing and selling the products and ordered them to be recalled.
