President Yoon was not present at the hearing, was he?
[Reporter]
Yes, 76 witnesses were selected as witnesses in today's first hearing.
President Yoon Suk Yeol and former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun did not appear.
Along with acting president Choi Sang-mok, most of the arrested military generals, including former counterintelligence commander Yeo In-hyeong, also submitted a letter of reason for their absence.
The ruling party initially protested that it had never agreed to adopt witnesses, but the opposition party issued an accompanying order, saying that President Yoon attended the impeachment trial of the Constitutional Court and ignored the National Assembly's request for attendance.
National Assembly staff left for the Seoul Detention Center to execute the accompanying order, but it is unclear whether President Yoon will comply with the execution.
Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, who was indicted for impeachment, and Deputy Chief of Security Kim Sung-hoon, who is accused of obstructing the arrest of President Yoon, were present at today's hearing.
Hong Jang-won, the former first deputy chief of the National Intelligence Service and military practitioners, who revealed that they were notified of the list of politicians' arrest at the time of the emergency martial law, are also attending and receiving questions from lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties.Attention is focusing on how President
Yoon will testify to the situation at the time, claiming that he did not attempt to arrest a politician and interfere with the National Assembly's decision to lift martial law in the impeachment trial yesterday.

How does the ruling party evaluate the impeachment hearing of President Yoon yesterday?
[Reporter]
Officially, the president seems to be distancing himself, saying it is only a legal dispute.
A key ruling party official told YTN that the president is fighting in his own way and that it is not something the party should evaluate, but added that the president "became the main character" with his attendance at the Constitutional Court yesterday.
It is expected that there will be a public opinion war effect, but floor leaders, including floor leader Kwon Sung-dong, visited the Constitutional Court today.
He did not meet with the justices, who said he was not defending the president, but asking for a fair impeachment trial, arguing that procedural matters were enough for the party to talk about.
When pointed out that the court was shaken, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, said, "Isn't the best thing to do to avoid the court?"
However, there are many voices within the ruling party that President Yoon's argument yesterday was inappropriate.
A senior lawmaker predicted that it would adversely affect the public opinion of the middle class, saying, "What good will it be for us if the president keeps appearing on television?"A leadership official who
also said it would have been better if the president had apologized to the public because martial law had done a great deal of damage to the people and national interests.

Please tell us about the Democratic Party's response.

Spokesman Hwang Jung-ah told reporters at the National Assembly a while ago that most of the claims President Yoon made at the Constitutional Court were lies.
It is already confirmed by the prosecution's investigation that it ordered the National Assembly to pull out at the time of martial law or that acting Choi Sang-mok received a note on the establishment of an emergency legislative body.
He said that his attendance at the Constitutional Court was aimed at inciting supporters, and that correspondence in detention centers should be prohibited to prevent the destruction of evidence.
However, internally, there is also an atmosphere that is wary of the gathering of conservative camps.
A key Democratic Party official said that President Yoon's appearance on TV itself is a factor in rallying supporters, and the recent trend of opinion polls is similar.
CEO Lee Jae-myung continues to focus on people's livelihood and economic activities.
At the morning meeting, he repeatedly insisted on expanding the local currency budget, citing the Bank of Korea report that real GDP equivalent to 500,000 won per household had evaporated due to the martial law shock.
He also emphasized the transition of post-ideology and post-war pragmatism, saying it is urgent to restore the fallen national dignity.
