Hyundai Motor Group has announced that it plans to launch a total of 38 new eco-friendly cars by 2025.
With the ambitious plan, the group aims to cement its second top position in the global eco-friendly car market after Toyota Motor Corp.
Hyundai Motor Group officials said the global eco-friendly car market will keep growing rapidly, but because of uncertainty in the market direction, the group is poised to continue to launch new gasoline hybrid, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
In particular, Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp. are aiming to be ranked third in the world's pure-electric car market, by increasing the number of its vehicle models to 14 by 2025 from the current two.
In June, Hyundai and Kia motors set their target of launching 31 new eco-friendly cars by 2020 but they have revised their strategy as they took the number two position in the global market during the first half of this year -- much sooner than expected.
