The Israeli military says several rockets fired from Lebanon were detected and most of them intercepted.
Sirens rang out across central Israel as Israeli interceptors flew over Tel Aviv, with one person reportedly injured by shrapnel.
Earlier, shortly after the start of the ground war, Hezbollah issued a statement capturing Israeli military movements across the Lebanese border town and saying Lebanese militias had attacked it.
Lebanon's prime minister, Najib Mikati, said Lebanon was facing one of the most dangerous stages in its history, with as many as a million evacuees due to Israeli airstrikes.
